Boston Property Management: Cooperating Neighbors

Selling a house requires a lot of hard work and energy. It is important to get it in great condition so that it looks appealing for the buyer.  You can do everything in your power to make sure that the sale goes through, but if the neighborhood isn’t good enough it can affect the sale.

For example if your neighbor’s place is not up to standard, it can be quite a downer. An unappealing neighbor’s house can be an unmaintained lawn, beat up cars in the driveway, unpainted house and loads of noise.  This can deter potential buyers from buying the place.  However there are ways you can prevent this loss.

 

1. Build a good relationship with your neighbors

It’s always a good idea to be on good terms with the neighbors because you never know when you will need them.  There will always be issues which can pop and it’s good to start on a friendly note, instead of leaving it too late. Not only will you be able to talk to them with ease but you can probably involve them in the sale of your home. It will be easy to get them to cooperate when you need them to fix their house, so you can sell yours.

2. Keep them in the loop

Boston Property management professionals suggest that It’s a good idea to also keep neighbors  in the loop before you sell your house. You might end up needing assistance from the neighbor. Your job is easier if you inform and give them enough notice. It doesn’t help if you spring it on them as a surprise and ask them to cooperate. It will also make them feel better knowing that you sought their advice.

3. Offer to pay for improvements (but don’t try to control them)

There may be some who have neighbors who would balk at paying for the cost of repainting their house, reseeding their lawn, cleaning up the house from outside or even changing their house. It would help offering to pay for it so that it may help with the sale of your house.  So if you expect them to make changes, make sure that you are paying for it. Plus you can’t force them to use anyone you recommend, even if you are paying for it. No one likes neighbors who bully others to accept their terms and conditions.
