Boston Property Management: What to unpack first when you move
Moving is a stressful job as it requires a lot of effort. Once the preparations have been done there is a lot to do once you reach your destination. The tedious task of unpacking is what remains.
This guide takes a look at what you should do when you reach your new home.
Clean your home
Clean your home as much as you can possibly do. Wipe everything with a cloth and wash it if you can. Get everything spotless before your belongings arrive. In the event that you are busy, you can get a cleaning service to do it for you.
Inspect and organize your belongings
Check all items against your inventory sheet to make sure nothing is damaged or missing. It helps if you make a list of possession per room and then take them to the room where they belong. This will help save a lot of time.
Follow this by placing all your household appliances and furniture. It is easier to get the bulky items out of the way. The smaller items can follow it after that.
Boston Property Management: Bedding
It won’t be possible to set up your bedroom on the first day. The best thing is to set up the bed and unpack all the bedding material. Also make sure that you have clothes and indoor shoes ready. You will need a good night’s sleep after an exhausting day of moving in.
Your personal items and toiletries are as important as the clothing and bedding. You should be able to stock your bathroom with the necessities such as toilet paper, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, towels etc. A good shower is also on the list after you unwind from a long day of moving in. If you have any medicines, make sure you unpack them first as you never know when you might need them.
One can rely on delivery for the food on the first day or a picnic basket full of food. You still need to ensure that the kitchen is fully stocked within two days of your arrival. This is because you need to make sure that your family has access to meals. It will take you a while to get everything in order. Ensure that you have set up all the large appliances such as the fridge and the stove. Set up the smaller items such as the microwave later as it is required to heat up the food.
If you have young children, make sure that their toys, books and games are unpacked when you enter the home. They need to be occupied during the move so that you can concentrate on moving. The best option is to set up a room with all their favourite items and a place for them to sit.
