MA Property Management: Emergency Evacuation Kit
Life is quite unpredictable as anything can happen. Sometimes you can face natural disasters while on other occasions you can suffer in an accident. Natural disasters can be quite a challenge and are often frightening. There is not much you can do about it except preparing for it. Do remember that this may lead to a brief evacuation or a permanent one (depending on the nature of the disaster).
When you are forced to leave your home in the event of an emergency, you don’t have enough time. There are items you wish you could take with you but not enough time to pack them. This is why you should get an emergency evacuation kit which is well stocked so that you can take care of yourself
What you’ll need
Keep some supplies of nonperishable food, water, flashlights and clothing as well as important documents. This should also include cash (though it should only be in small bills. It is not safe keeping a lot of cash around), documents (copies of Driver’s license, Social Security Card, Birth Certificate and other identification documents which are irreplaceable), Insurance documents, Banking documents, as well as a First-Aid Kit (bandages in various sizes, gauze pads, adhesive cloth tape, antiseptic wipe packets, antibiotic ointment, hydrocortisone ointment, an oral thermometer, non-latex gloves, scissors, tweezers and aspirin. Do not forget to keep another bag with medication (around seven days of medication will be just fine. The only precaution you need to take is to see how long you can keep the medication on hold. ) Also make sure that you have extra copies of all your prescriptions on hold so that you can refill them if need be. If you have any will, keep some copies in a water proof folder and upload the rest online. Add a list of contact information for all your friends, family, doctors, work contacts. Get an extra phone and laptop charger along with a solar and wind-up charger. In the event that navigation systems do not work, get a map so that you know where you are going.
MA Property Management: Last Item on the list
Get one of those large backpacks or duffel bags which can hold all your items. If it has a shoulder or waist strap go for it as you will be able to carry items over long distances. Perhaps you should also keep them in a place where you can grab it easily in the event of an emergency. Another good idea would be to conduct drills to see how fast you can evacuate your property.
